The Canadian lynx, an animal indigenous to Canada and noted for its fighting powers, is appropriate for a fighter squadron.
Re-formed as a Fighter unit at Rockcliffe (Ottawa), Ontario on 1 August 1941, the squadron flew Bolingbroke aircraft on West Coast air defence, and in April 1942 moved to Annette Island, Alaska as part of the RCAF reinforcement to the United States Army Air Forces.
Redesignated Bomber Reconnaissance on 22 June 1942, the squadron returned to southern British Columbia where it was re-equipped with Ventura aircraft and employed on anti-submarine duty until disbanded at Tofino on 23 August 1944.

Operational History
First Mission 13 May 1942, Bolingbroke IV 9060 from Annette Island with F/L F.B. Curry and crew - search for a submarine reported to be 30 miles west of Annette. The "periscope" turned out to be a limb protruding from a floating log.
Last Mission 17 August 1944, Ventura 2231 from Tofino with F/O A.W. Rogers and crew - anti-submarine patrol.
