Authorized as a Coast Artillery Cooperation unit at Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 1, 1938, the squadron was redesignated Fighter on May 1, 1939. When called out on voluntary full-time duty in September, the squadron's organization was incomplete and it was disbande on November 2, 1939.
Re-formed as a Bomber Reconnaissance unit at Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on 28 June 1941,1 the squadron flew Catalina and Canso A aircraft on East Coast and Gulf of St. Lawrence anti-submarine duty until disbanded at Sydney, Nova Scotia on 20 June 1945.
First Mission: 22 July 1941, Catalina W8432 "J" frorn Dartinouth with W/C Blanchard and crew - convoy escort. Unable to locate convoy, it returned to base.
Last Mission 2 June 1945, Canso A 9819 "F" from, Sydney with F/0 H.C. Cornwall and crew - escort of convoy HG9.
