No. 124 Squadron

Formed as the Air Force HQ Ferry Squadron at Rockcliffe, Ontario on January 1, 1942 for the inter-command ferrying of aircraft, the unit was numbered No. 124 (Ferry Squadron) on February 14, 1942. On November 15, it was organized into an eastern division with headquarters at Rockcliffe and a western division with headquarters at Winnipeg, Manitoba; the latter became No. 170 (Ferry) squadron on March 1, 1944. When the war ended, No. 170 Sqauadron was disbanded and became the western detachement of No. 124 Squadron which was itself disbanded on September 30, 1946.

Non-operational flying hours: 126,402
Casualties: 21 aircraft; 48 aircrew; 4 passengers killed.

The squadron's most serious loss occured on September 15, 1946 when Dakota 962 crashed at Estevan, Saskatchewan, killing 19 pilots where had ferried Cornell aircraft to Estavan and were returning to Rockcliffe.
